2. Handmade Paper:

Using a mold and deckle, students will learn how to make handmade recycled paper.  Students will be shown a variety of techniques to add color and texture to their paper with various natural and recycled materials.  Along with making decorative sheets of paper, students will be shown how to make paper containers, books, etc.

Ages 10-13

Personally Designed Mandala:

Sometimes we get so caught up in the big picture that we overlook the details that make it interesting in the first place.  Students will do some experimental drawing exercises using still life, contour drawing, viewfinder drawing, and enlargements.  A favorite sketch will be used as the starting point for a mandala, a circular design that we will execute using a transfer method.  The kaleidoscope-like drawings will be completed with a combination of color media.

MORNING & EVENING ART CLASSES FOR ADULTS - Teens are welcome to attend evening classes.

Think of it as art therapy for whatever ails you.  Pablo Picasso said “Every child is an artist.  The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.”  Have you been asking yourself why should the kids have all the fun? If you need an outlet, want a way to express yourself, and are wondering where to start… here are some possibilities.

Treasure Necklace

3necklaces.jpg picture by rhythmicsonline

If you can crochet a chain stitch, you can make this necklace.  If you can’t crochet, you can learn to chain stitch in a snap.  We will be using nylon monofilament to crochet the necklace, and you will need a collection of beads and/or “treasures” to string onto the nylon before you begin crocheting.  Materials list will be sent to those who register.  Minimum of 4 students... class fee will decrease as student number increases.

Two 2-hour sessions: 50.00  Call for more info

Broken Dish Mosaics - “Pique Assiette”

Here’s an opportunity to make a statement!  You will bring in something that needs a facelift – perhaps a small end table, bench, picture frame, chair, flower pot, wooden box, glass vase, lamp base, etc.  We will break some old dishes to create the mosaic tiles, and then plan the design.  If you have other treasures you want to incorporate into the mosaic, bring them along too… seashells, sea glass, broken mirror glass, old broken jewelry, buttons, etc. Materials list will be sent to those who register.  Minimum of 4 students... class fee will decrease as student number increases.

Three 2-hour sessions: 75.00  Call for more info

Handmade Paper Fan

After constructing a “skeleton” for your fan with basket reed, you will create a fan using a custom-made mold & deckle.  The paper pulp will be made with recycled paper and fibers and the completed fan will be embellished with your choice of fabric, paper, paint, beads, etc.  Materials list will be sent to those who register.  Minimum of 4 students... class fee will decrease as student number increases.

Three 1 1/2  hour sessions: 60.00  Call for more info
